Quotable- Yuan T Lee and Rachel Carson on Conflict, Competition and Destroying The World

Good morning and Happy Monday!

Today's quotes are about environmentalism and responsible use of the Earth's resources-

1) First is this advice from Chemist and Winner of the 1986 Nobel Prize in Chemistry Yuan T. Lee-

"We need to become good citizens in the global village, instead of competing. What are we competing for - to drive more cars, eat more steaks? That will destroy the world."
 - Yuan T. Lee, , (Born: 19th November 1936)

The American environmentalist Rachel Carson (author of "Silent Spring") put similar sentiments in slightly more poetic tones-

2)
“The question is whether any civilization can wage relentless war on life without destroying itself, and without losing the right to be called civilized"
- Rachel Carson (27th May 1907-  14th April 1964)

Again, there is not really anything to add to these quotes, so I'll let them speak for themselves and be back with the next instalment this time next week. The next post will be on Friday, when I am delving into the photo archives again; I hope to see you then.

  1. People need to be more responsible. Humanity is going to destroy the planet. People need to wake up and take responsibility.
